Frank William Tye was born in 1878 at Bulwell he was the son of Robert Tye a farm labourer and the late Adelaide Annie Tye néeKettle of 13 Pilkington Street, Bulwell. His father Robert Tye was born in 1843 at Bransden, Suffolk, his mother Adelaide Annie Kettle was born in 1848 at Plomesgate, Suffolk, she died in 1901 aged 53 yrs of age, they were married in 1868 at Plomesgate, Suffolk, they went on to have 8 children. In the 1911 census his father is living at 13 Pilkington Street, Bulwell, he is 67 yrs and a farm labourer, and a widow he is living with his grandson and his family. Frank William married Hannah Oldham (born 25th March 1878) on 25th December 1897 at St John’s church, Buwell, they lived at 78 Albert Street, Bulwell, Nottingham, they had the following children, James William born 15th October 1899, Frances May born 20th November 1904 and Adelaide born 24th March 1911. In the 1911 census Frank and his family are living at 78 Albert Street, Highbury Vale, Bulwell, Frank William Tye is 32 yrs and is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Hannah 33 yrs and their children, James William 11 yrs, Frances May 6 yrs and Adelaide 6 months old. Commencing 6th August 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence a week.
Private Frank William Tye enlisted on 4th September 1914 at Nottingham, giving his age as 34 yrs and 1 month, he was a coal miner. He served initially with the service number 14465 in the Northumberland Fusiliers, he landed in France on 9th September 1915 and was killed in action on 13th November 1916 and is buried at Sierre Road Cemetery No 1 France.
