Percy Taylor was born in 1894 at Bulwell, he was the son of George a blast furnace labourer and the late Elizabeth Ann Taylor née Southward of 41 Quarry Road, Bulwell His father was born in 1853 at Staylebridge, his mother Elizabeth Ann Southward was born in 1855 she died in 1892 aged 37 yrs they were married on 31st August 1873 at St John’s church, Manchester, they had 3 further children, Samuel Steven, George Leonard and Elsie. In the 1911 census we find Percy has joined the Army, he is in barracks in India with his battalion, he is 17 yrs of age and a trumpeter, serving with the Dragoons At the time of his death his next of kin was his married sister Mrs Elsie Pickering, of 9, White Cottages, Vernon Rd., Old Basford, Nottingham

Military History

Private Percy Taylor enlisted on 5th August 1908 at Macclesfield, giving his age as 15 yrs and 2 months, he was a musician, his father was George Taylor of 41 Quarry Road, Bulwell. He was posted to the Corp of Dragoons, he attained 18 yrs of age on 5th June 1911 he was embodied on 5th August 1914. He landed in France on 16th December 1914 and was killed in action on 21st August 1916 he is buried at Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Mont-St-Eloi, France.
