Military History

Harold Roadley first served with 17th battalion and entered theatre after 1 January 1916. He probably moved to 9th Battalion in February 1918 when the 17th battalion was disbanded. The battalion entered Sebourg on 4 November 1918 and the villagers welcomed them with open arms. After enjoying the hospitality the men moved forward up the ridge beyond the village and the enemy opened up with heavy machine gun fire. During the battle, over 60 men were killed and 35 including Harold lie in the small military cemetery overlooking Sebourg. John Morse
