He was the son of George and Elizabeth Richards, of Bulwell and husband of Sarah Ann Richards, of 87, Hempshill Lane, Bulwell, Nottingham (CWGC).
Rifleman John Richards, 2nd Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps, died of wounds at No. 4 Casualty Clearing Station on 11th July 1915, having been wounded two days previously and is buried in Lillers Communal Cemetery, grave ref II.A.35)
Nottingham Post obituary (abridged), 27 July 1915: 'Richards. Died of wounds 11 July 1915, Private J Richards, Kings Royal Rifles, late of Bulwell, aged 35 years.' Nottingham Post obituary (abridged), 19 August 1915: 'Private J Richards, 37 Hempshill Lane, Bulwell, late of Bestwood Colliery, wounded on July 9th and died July 11th.'
