He was the son of Mrs W Balloch of 10 Broomhill Road, Bulwell. He was married to Bertha and had one daughter, Beryl; the family lived at 19 Broomhill Road, Bulwell. Two brothers, Will and David, also served.
He served with the 75th Bn, Machine Gun Corps (Infantry). He died of pneumonia in Alexandra Military Hospital, Egypt, and is buried in Kantara War Memorial Cemetery (grave ref. F.424).
Nottingham Post notice (abridged), 10 January 1919: 'Balloch. Died of pneumonia at Alexandra Military Hospital, Egypt, January 4th 1919, Lance Corporal John Balloch, age 26, husband of Bertha balloch of 19 Broomhill Road, Bulwell. Wife and baby, Beryl. Son of Mrs W Balloch, 10 Broomhill Road, Bulwell. Mother, sisters, brothers Will and David in France.'
