Charles Henry was the son of Charles Henry and Hannah Marion Vigors of Blessington, County Wicklow, Ireland. He had at least one sibling, Cecil Arthur.Charles Henry's birth was registered in 1891 (J/F/M Athy Ireland) and Cecil Arthur's birth was registered in 1895 (J/F/M Athy Ireland); both boys were born in Blessington, Ireland. Charles (20) was recorded living with his parents Charles (57) and Hannah Marion (48) in New Pallas Town, Grean, Limerick, in 1911.Charles married Kate Mary Heelis [also Kathleen/Katherine/Catherine] in 1917 (A/M/J Birkenhead, Cheshire). Kate was born on 31 March 1895 (A/M/J Nottingham), the daughter of Robert Heelis, a medical practitioner, and his wife Sarah who had one other child, Robert. In 1911 the family lived at 33 Church Street, Lenton, Nottingham, which was also Robert's surgery.Kate married Michael D O'Byrne (b. 1 December 1901) in 1925 (O/N/D Nottingham) and in 1939 they were living at 33 Church Street, Lenton. Michael O'Byrne was a medical practitioner. Kate died on 13 March 1986 (May Lichfield Staffs) aged 91. Charles' brother, Cecil Arthur, served as a second lieutenant in the Royal Munster Fusiliers, attached 9th Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers, and was killed in action on 9th September 1916 aged 21. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
Major Charles Henry Vigors was killed in action in Salonika on 18th September 1918. He was initially reported missing and his death was later presumed 18 September. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Dorian Memorial.
The award of the Military Cross was published in the 'London Gazette' on 18th July 1918: “For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. After an intense and prolonged bombardment the enemy attacked an isolated post of which he was in command. He showed great courage and determination, which resulted in the attack being repulsed, two prisoners captured.”Nottingham Evening Post, 23rd July 1919: Major C. H.
