Family History

Norman Archibald Chambers was born on 24th March 1895 at Stanton by Dale, he was baptised on 9th June 1896 at Hallam Fields, Derbyshire, he was the son of Frederick Chambers a foundry manager and his second wife Margaret Chambers née Murchie of Stanton by Dale. His father Frederick was born in 1857 at Whittington, his mother Margaret Murchie was born in 1860 at Dudley they were married in 1892 at Wells, Somerset, they had 3 children, James Frederick b1894, Norman Archibald b 1895 and John Finlay born 1898. His fathers 1st marriage was to Mary Ann Wright (1853-1884) they were married in 1882 at Chesterfield, they had a daughter Beatrice Adelaide born 1883. In the 1911 census his parents and siblings are living at Stanton by Dale, Frederick 54 yrs a foundry manager, he is living with his wife Margaret 50 yrs and their children, Beatrice Adilaide 28 yrs and John Finlay 13 yrs. In the same 1911 census Norman Arichibald is a student, he is 16 yrs of age and is a student at Trent College at Long Eaton.

Military History

Second Lieutenant served with the 3rd battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, he landed in France on 29th May 1916, he died of wounds on 17th August 1916 and is buried at Puchevillers British Cemtery, France.
