Edward William Bell was born in 1887 at Cheltenham, he was the son of Frederick Oak Bell an optician and surgical maker and Elizabeth Bell née Robinson of 1 Florence House, Cheltenham. His father Frederick Oak Bell was born in 1856 at Cheltenham, his mother Elizabeth Robinson was born in 1858 also in Cheltenham, they were married on 11th September 1884 at St Pauls Weslyan Methodist Chapel at Runcorn they had 4 children. In the 1911 census the family are living at 1 Florence House, Cheltenham, Frederick Oak 55 yrs is optical and surgical maker, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 53 yrs and their daughters Dorothy Lilian 22 yrs and Elsie Mary 16 yrs of age. In the same 1911 census Edward has left the family home, he is living at 44 Burns Street, Nottingham, he is shown as being 24 yrs of age single and an optologist he is boarding with Sidney Stuart Neal 42 yrs a coal merchant. Edward married his wife Ethel Orynthin Saxton on 2nd July 1916, at Lenton Prioy Church, they lived at 29 Lenton Avenue, The Park, Nottingham

Military History

Lieutenant Edward Wiliam Bell served with the Machine Gun Corps, he died on 8th December 1917 in Palestine, he is buried at Jerusalem War Cemetery, Israel.
