Father: William Wray, born 1857 at Knaresborough, Yorkshire and working as a fruit merchant. Mother: Charlotte Wray, born 1889 in Nottingham. Brothers: Charles, born in 1887, George, born in 1893, Richard, born in 1896. Sisters: Ethel, born in 1885, Sarah, born in 1891 and Nellie D., born in 1897. All the children were born in Nottingham. The family lived at 14 Robin Hood Chase, Nottingham (C. 1901) before moving to 11 Victoria Avenue, Sneinton Dale, Nottingham (C. 1911)
William Percy Wray was a professional soldier and by 1911 had reached the rank of lance corporal. He was later promoted to corporal. He served in the 2nd Bn Worcestershire Regiment, but was later transferred to the 1st Battalion.He was sent to France as part of the battalion reinforcements, arriving on November 5, 1914. Cpl. Wray was killed in action on 07/03/1915. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial (panel 17 and 18).
Death notification published 7th April 1915 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “WRAY. – Killed in action, March 7th, in France, Corpl. W. P.
