Family History

Walter Worthington was born in 1898 at Sneinton, Nottingham, he was the son of the late William Worthington a general bones dealer and Florence Elizabeth Bartram of 34 Windmill Lane, Sneinton, Nottingham. His father William was born in 1876 at Nottingham, he died in 1917 he was 41 yrs of age, his mother Florence Elizabeth Bartram was born in 1875 at Nottingham, they were married in 1896 at Nottingham and went on to have 7 children, sadly 2 were to die in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family are living at 34 Windmill Lane, Nottingham, William 35 yrs is a general bones dealer, he is living with his wife Florence Elizabeth 36 yrs and their children, Annie 14 yrs a cord winder, Walter 13 yrs a scholar, William 8 yrs, Frederick 7 yrs and Harry 6 years of age.

Military History

Private Walter Worthington enlisted at Buxton whilst residing at Sneinton, Nottingham, he served with the 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.he was killed in action on 20th October 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.
