William was born in 1890 in Sneinton , he married his wife Daisy Brazil (born 1891 Leeds Yorkshire) on 17th May 1910 at St Phillips Church, Nottingham , they went on to have three children William born 14th June 1910 , Tom 24th December 1912 and Teresa born 13th May 1914, all the children were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 34 Earl Street, Sneinton, he is shown as 20 yrs head of the family a bricklayers labourer, he is living with his wife Daisy a lace dresser and their 19 month old son William. At the time of his death his family were living at 14 Byron Street, Sneinton. Following his death , his widow Daisy received a letter from the War Office dated 25th April 1916 informing her she was to receive a pension of 20 shillings and six pence for her and her three children commencing 24th April 1916. By April 1919 his widow Daisy had remarried to Herbert Palethorpe and was living at 13 Camden St, Sneinton Road, Nottingham.
William enlisted on 18th May 1908 for a term of six years and served with Notts and Derbys Regiment special reserves, on enlistment he gave his age as 18 yrs and 3 months, his occupation he gave as basket maker and his religion was Church Of England. He attended a number of camps between 1908 and 1914 and upon the outbreak of war was mobilised into 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters, he went out to join the British Expeditionary Force on 11th November 1914. He was killed in action on 9th August 1915, he has no known grave his name is commemorated on the Menin Gate memorial , Ypres Belgium, he had served in the Army for 7 yrs and 84 days.
