According to the Nottingham Guardian (9/6/1916) he was the brother of Leading Stoker Ralph Potts who was killed while serving in HMS Queen Mary at Jutland. However, no other evidence has been found to link Jim Potts with Ralph and his family. Ralph's parents, Thomas and Jane Potts, lived at 1 Hermitage Row, Thurgaton Street, Sneinton, and later 6 Castle Street, Sneinton Hollows, Nottingham.

Military History

No trace has been found of this man's military service. CWGC does not list him and Potts is not recorded amongst Royal Navy fatalities aboard Queen Mary nor is there a record on the RN&RM War Graves Roll nor in the Register of Seamen's Services or the RNVR equivalent.
