Family History

Thomas Keetley was born in 1890 he was the son of George an iron moulder and Polly Keetley of 46 Upper Eldon Street, Sneinton , Nottingham. George was born in 1859 at Nottingham, Polly was born in 1861 also at Nottingham, they were married C1881 and had 8 children, In the 1911 census the family were living at 46 Upper Eldon Street, George is 52 yrs and is an iron moulder, he is living with his wife Polly 50 yrs and their 8 children. they state they have been married for 30 yrs and have had 8 children. Thomas Keetley married Florence Kirke (born 24th August 1891 ) in 1911 at Nottingham, they lived at 72 Walker Street, Sneinton and had a son Thomas born 28th May 1915. Commencing 5th March 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week, His widow remarried on 20th September 1917 to Henry Redman.

Military History

Private Thomas Keetley enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment he was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, during the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. Commemorated: Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.
