Ernest Henry was born in 1878 at Notting Hill, Middlesex and was the son of William a framework knitter (silk) and Mary Hunt nee Batham, of Derry Mount , Arnold. His father was born in 1845 in Loughborough , Leicestershire and his mother Mary Batham was born in 1858 in Kensington, Middlesex , they were married on 12th April 1875 at Hawick, Roxburgh, Scotland. They had 5 children , sadly 1 died in infancy prior to 1911 , their surviving children were Ernest b1878 Notting Hill London, William b1880 Loughborough, George b1882 Loughborough and Harty b1884 Loughborough . By the 1901 census the family have settled in Arnold living at West Street, Arnold. Ernest Henry married Annie Bradbury in 1902 at Nottingham, they had two children, Ivy b1903 and Horace b1910. In 1911 they lived at 43 Rossington Road Sneinton Nottingham. In the 1911 census Ernest and his family are living at 43 Rossington Road, Sneinton and are shown as Ernest 33yrs a shop fitter, he is living with his wife Annie 31 yrs and their children , Ivy 8 yrs and Harold 1 year of age. In the 1911 census his parents William and Mary are living at Derrymount, Arnold and are shown as Wiliam 66 yrs a framework knitter, and Mary 53 yrs , all the children appear to have left the family home.
Aircratsman second class Ernest Henry Hunt has enlisted on 13th July 1916, he served with the Royal Flying Corps and was discharged due to sickness on 29th August 1916. He was awarded a silver badge number 384629. He died at home on 29th March 1919 of pulmonary phthisis He is not recorded on the soldiers died in the great war or the CWGC
His brother Harty Batham Hunt enlisted in Nottingham and served with the North Staffordshire Regiment and was posted to their 7th Battalion, going with them out to Mesopotamia (Iraq) where they took part in the actions against the Turkish Army. On the 25th January, the battalion took part in an assault on the first Turkish line on the west bank of the river Hai and it was during this assault that he was killed in action. His names is commemorated on the Basra Memorial, Iraq Nottingham Evening Post Deaths 29/3/1919: 'Hunt. On March 29th at 43 Rossington Road Nottingham after a long and painful illness Ernest Henry Hunt dearly loved husband of Annie Hunt. Christ will link the broken chain closer when we meet again. From his sorrowing wife and children.'
