John Henry was the son of Mrs Dring of Beeston, Nottingham. (CWGC) He married Clarice Frances Clarke (b. 30 August 1892) in 1918 (J/F/M Nottingham). In 1939 when the England & Wales Register was compiled Clarice was living at 27 Lowdham Street, Nottingham; she was described as incapacitated and with private means. Also in the household was Elizabeth Cosgrove (b. 30 July 1882), single, and also described as incapacitated and with private means. Clarice Dring died on 18 June 1949 aged 56 (A/M/J Nottingham).

Military History

John Henry Dring enlisted in Nottingham. He served in France from 30 August 1915 and was killed in action on 27 March 1918. Initially reported missing, his death was not confirmed until May 1919. John Henry has no known grave and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Somme (Panel 52 to 54). He qualfied for the 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
