Father: Edward Bradshaw, born in 1866 in Nottingham working as a cotton maker-up. Mother: Mara Bradshaw, born in 1867 in Nottingham and working as a cotton doubler. Brothers: Ernest E., born in 1892 in Nottingham and Albert, born in 1895. The family lived at 41 Island Street, Nottingham before moving to 47 Eldon Street, Sneinton, Nottingham.
Pe. Bradshaw was called up for service and following training he was drafted to France. He initially served with the South Wales Borderers, No. 24339, but was then transferred to 14th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment. The battalion was involved in holding the line during May when the German offensives had moved elsewhere. Nevertheless, he was killed in action on 10/05/1918 and was buried at Forceville Communal Cemetery and Extension, near Albert.
Albert Bradshaw also served in France (Evening Post July 3, 1918) Death notice published 3rd July 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “BRADSHAW. – Killed in action, May 10th, Pte. John Bradshaw, Worcester Regt., aged 21, youngest on of Mr. and Mrs. E. Bradshaw, 47 Eldon-street. Served with the 16th St. Mary's Scouts. One of the many to answer the call, for those he loved he gave his all; somewhere afar in a soldier's grave, lies my loving son among the brave. His sorrowing mother and father, brother Albert (serving in France).” In memoriam published 10th May 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “BRADSHAW. – In remembrance of our son, Pte. John W.
