Father: Thomas Ault, born in 1852 at Ashby and working as a stone mason. Mother: Mary Ault, born in 1857 also in Ashby. Brothers: Arthur, born in 1876, Charles, born in 1886 and Thomas born in 1890 and working as a striker at a coach builders. Sisters: Ellen, born in 1875, Louisa, born in 1887 and Miriam, born in 1889. All the children were born in Ashby.The family lived at 5 Court 12, Market Square, Ashby-de-la-Zouch before moving to Whitehorse Yard, Market Street, Ashby. Herbert Ault married Sarah Ann Ault, nee Hibbett, in April 1912, and they lived at 47 Westwood Road, Sneinton, Nottingham.

Military History

Spr. Ault was called up for service and following training he was drafted to France. He was involved in the fighting during the Battle of Arras and died of wounds on April 29, 1917. He was buried Feuchy British Cemetery, 3 miles east of Arras.
