Family History

Bertie Woodward was born in 1898 and was the 18 year old son of Edward a brass finisher and Emma Woodward née Kirk of 6 Ford Street New Basford. His father Edward was born in 1861 in Birmingham, his mother Emma Kirk was born in 1862 in Lenton, they were married in 1886 in Nottingham and had the following children all of whom were born in Hyson Green, Edward b1889, Ernest b1892, Mabel b1893 and Bertie b1898. In the 1901 census the family were living at 4 Abel Place, Carrington Street, Nottingham.

Military History

Private Bertie Woodward, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 15th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 17th July 1916. Having no known grave, commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme. l
