Percy was born in 1888 in Carrington He was the son of John Robert Spurr who died November 29th 1918 aged 59 and Emma Spurr née Finley they were married in 1878 in Nottingham. Percy married his wife Ethel Fewkes at the Nottingham Registrar Office on 16th October 1909 and they had the following children Emily born 14th January 1910, Gladys May born 8th June 1911 and Robert born 23rd March 1916, all were born in Bulwell. In 1911 they lived at 5 Fern Terrace New Basford Nottingham. At the time of Percys death his widow was living at 49 Northgate, Basford, and she received a letter dated 28th November 1917 from the Ministry of Pensions informing her she would receive a pension of 26 shillings and three pence a week for her and her three children , with effect from 3rd December 1917.
Private Percy Robert Spurr, enlisted at Nottingham on 8th December 1915 , he was 27 yrs and 11 moths old, his address was 5 Springfield Road, Old Basford, his next of kin was his wife Ethel of the same address, he gave his occupation as that of a hosiery Scourer. He was placed into the reserves and on 3rd October 1916 was mobilised and posted to the 1/5th battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottingham & Derbyshire) Regiment. He embarked from Folkstone on 13th January 1917 arriving the same day at Boulogne. On 15th May 1915 he received gun shot wounds to his left hand and thigh whilst in action and was taken to the 1st Casualty Clearing Station, where on the following day he died as a result of his wounds, on 16th May 1917. He is buried in Chocques Military Cemetery Grave Reference: I K 29
