Family History

Henry William Linken was born in 1898 at Wapping, London and was the son of Edward a stoker at a dyers and Elizabeth Linken née Herold of 53 Nottingham Road, New Basford, Nottingham. His father Edward was born in 1856 at Germany, his mother Elizabeth Herold was born in 1869 at Fulham, they were married on 14th May 1894 at St James church Fulham, they had the following children, George Edward Ernest b1896 Fulham, Henry William b1898 Wapping and Elsie b1900 Fulham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 93 St Marys Road, Leyton, Essex, they are shown as Edward 55 yrs a stoker at Dyer works, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 42 yrs and their children, George 15 yrs a junior clerk, Henry 12 yrs a scholar and Elsie 11 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private Henry William Linken enlisted at Leyton whilst residing at Leyton, he served with the 13th battalion Royal Fusiliers. He was killed in action on 24th April 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial
