William Hoole was born in 1895 at Nottingham and was the son of John a basket maker and Emily Hoole née Beardall of 48 Duke Street, Basford. His father John was born in 1868 at Nottingham, his mother Emily Beardall was born in 1862 they were married in 1892 at Nottingham, they went on to have the following children, Joseph b1893, William b1895 and Albert b1897 all were born in Nottingham, they went on to have Matilda b1901, Dorothy b1905 and Emily b1909 who were born at Newark, their final child Lilian was born in 1910 in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family were living at 1 Alma Terrace John Street Basford Nottingham and were shown as John Hoole 43 yrs a basket maker, he is living with his wife Emily 42 yrs and their children, Joseph 18 yrs a basket maker, William 16 yrs a cardboard box maker, Albert 14 yrs a packer, Matilda 10 yrs a scholar, Dorothy 6 yrs, Emily 2 yrs and Lillian 9 months of age.
William Hoole joined after 1 January 1916 at Nottingham he served with the 9th battalion Sherwood Foresters. The battalion arrived in the Loos/Hulluch sector on 21st October 1917 after the rigours of the Ypres Salient. They were based in this area through the winter. William died on a day which was described as 'quiet' and in Great War terms on 6th December 1917, he is buried at Loos British Cemetery John Morse
