Family History

William Harold Gidlow was born in 1883 in Nottingham and was the son of the late Charles Singleton a fancy lace maker and Selina Gidlow née Moore of 209 Berridge Road, Hyson Green, Nottingham. His father was born in 1858 in Hyson Green and his mother Selina Moore was born in 1859 in Draycott in Derbyshire, they were married in 1879 , their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration , they had the following children ,William Harold b1883, Wallace Arthur b1885, Henry Singleton b1887 and Wilfred Charles b1891. His father died in 1891 in Nottingham he was 32 yrs of age. In the 1911 census the family are show as living at 2 Leonard Ave, Sherwood Nottingham and are shown as Selina 52 yrs a widow , a draper and milliner, she is living with her sons William Harold 28 yrs a chartered accountants clerk, Wallace Arthur 2 6 yrs a lace warehouse man and Henry Singleton 24 yrs a photographer.

Military History

Private William Harold Gidlow, Royal Army Medical Corps. He first landed in Egypt on 29th May 1915 , died of influenza on 17th October 1918 in a military hospital in India. He is buried in Poona (St. Sepulchre's) Cemetery.India A.306

Extra Information

His brother Wallace Arthur Gidlow enlisted at Nottingham and served with the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry he was killed in action on 14th April 1917 as his body was not recovered his name was added to the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. Death notice published 9th November 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “GIDLOW. – On October 17th, in military hospital abroad, Pte.
