Benjamin Carlin was born in 1900 in West Bridgford and was the son of Jason a police sergeant and Fanny Carlin née Warren of Shelford Road, Radcliffe on Trent. His father was born in 1871 at Eastwood and his mother Fanny Warren was born in 1870 in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, they were married in 1892 in Nottingham and went on to have 5 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were George b1897 Beeston, Benjamin b1900 West Bridgford and Mable b1909 at Radcliffe on Trent . In the 1911 census the family are living at the Police Station, Radcliffe on Trent and are shown as Jason Carlin 40 yrs a police sergeant, he is living with his wife Fanny 41 yrs and their children George 14 yrs an errand boy at the golf club, Benjamin 11 yrs a scholar and Mable 2 yrs.
Private Benjamin Carlin enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Radcliffe on Trent, he served with the 5th battalion Alexandra Princess of Wales's Own (Yorkshire Regiment ) he was killed in action on 27th May 1918 , having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Soissons memorial
