Son of Thomas and Elizabeth Whittingham, of 92, Main Rd., Sheffield; husband of Mabel Whittingham, of 78, Stoney Rock Lane, Leeds (CWGC). Thomas and Elizabeth had had four children, three living at the time of the 1911 Census. Thomas had two sisters, Mary and Ethel, who were much older than him and at the time of the 1911 census only Thomas remained at home at 92 Main Road, Sheffield. He married Mabel (nee Flynn) on 2 April 1916 at the parish church of St Agnes and St Stephen, Burmantofts, Leeds. Both were of 78 Stoney Rock Lane, Leeds, and Thomas's profession was given as 'soldier'.
Thomas Cyril enlisted on 10 February 1916 in the Army Service Corps but later transferred to the Royal Fusiliers. He served on the Western Front from 6 July 1917. He died of vascular heart disease on 17 November 1917 and is buried in St Hilaire Cemetery, Frevent, France (grave ref IV.A.27). He qualified for the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
