Family History

Bernard was born in 1899 in Nottingham and was the son of Percy an upholsterer and Annie Trueman of 6 Wycliffe Grove, Mapperley. Percy and Annie had a total of seven children , however sadly two of them died in infancy, Bernard's siblings were - Harold, Rose, Elsie and Frederick. In the 1911 census the family are living at 6 Wycliffe Grove, Mapperley, Bernard is 12 years of age and a grocers errand boy.

Military History

He was reported missing 10 April but his death was not confirmed until the following year. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial.

Missing April 10th, 1918, now officially reported died on that date, Pte Bernard Truman, 4th South Staffs., aged 19, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Truman, 6 Wycliffe-grove, Mapperley, it is hard to part with one we loved so dear.
