Family History

Alfred was born in 1880 in Greenfield, Lancashire and was the son of Alfred a blacksmith and Fanny Oddy (née Ellis ) who lived at 17 Fred's Place, Sticker Lane, Bradford. Alfred and Fanny had 6 children, Sam, Charles, Alfred Edward, Clara H, Elizabeth Eller and Mary Hannah. In 1900 Alfred married his wife Annie Frisby who came from Nottingham , they married in Nottingham in 1910. By the 1911 census Alfred is 31 years of age and a book keeper at a clothing and outfitters, he is living at 42 Fryston Place, Bradford, with his wife Annie 27 years and their 10 month old daughter Mary.

Military History

Alfred enlisted into the 8th battalion , Leeds Rifles, Princess of Wales's Own (Yorkshire Regiment .He first entered a theatre of war in Egypt on 6th December 1915 and at this time was living at 798 Woodborough Road, Mapperley, Nottingham (medal index card ) He received his commission on 25th June 1918 and was killed in action on 29th September 1918 and is buried in Rulaulcourt Military cemetery, Pas De Calais France, grave reference K 44

In memoriam published 27th September 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “ODDY. – In loving memory of Lieut. Alf. E. Oddly, West Yorks. Regt., killed in action Sept. 27th, 1918, the beloved husband of Annie Oddy, and son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. G. A.
