Richard was born in 1882 in Little Hale Lincolnshire and was the son of Frederick and Rebecca Ingall his siblings were Mary, Eleanor, Rebecca, Frederick, Annie and May. between 1883 and 1884 the family moved to Mapperley, Nottingham. In 1894 Frederick appears to have died because in the 1901 census Rebecca has remarried a Charles Hanford to become Rebecca Hanford. In the 1901 census , Charles Hanford together with his new wife Rebecca are living with her children on Woodoborough Road in Mapperley, Nottingham. By the 1911 census Richard is a visitor at 54 park Ave, Fazakerley and is staying with William Hartley and family. In the first quarter of 1918 he marries his wife Annie Froggatt , who at the time of his death was living at 28 Southwark Road, Basford, Nottingham.
Richard enlisted on 10th May 1915 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 33 years and 3 months , his address as 792 Woodborough Road,Mapperley and his occupation as that of chauffeur. His next of kin was his mother Rebecca Handford of the same address. He served on the home front between 10th may 1915 and 11th April 1916 and server as a lorry driver with the Army Service Corps Motor Transport section. On 12th April 1916 he joins the British Expeditionary Force in France where he serves with the Army Service Corp for the duration of the war. On 1st July 1919 he is discharged from the Army with diabetes , his discharge address is 28 Southwark Street, Basford, Nottingham. On 29th October 1919 he is awarded a pension of 40 shillings a week for himself and a further 10 shillings for his wife. However on 19th December 1920 Richard dies from his diabetes suffering a heart attack. His wife Annie on 22nd December 1920 is awarded a pension of 20 shillings a week.
No record can be found on Commonwealth war graves of Richards death , nor can he be found on the soldiers died in the Great War index. His brother Frederick Ingall also served in the ' Great War' in the Royal Irish Regiment and died of wounds on 1st November 1917.
