Family History

Reginald Upton was born in 1895 at Derby and was the son of George Herbert an iron moulder and Sarah Upton née Morley of 60 Cottesmore Road, Lenton, Nottingham. His father George Herbert was born in 1858 at Shardlow, his mother Sarah Morley was born in 1856 at Derby, they were married in 1879 at Derby and had 9 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood, their children were John Morley b1880, Ethel b1882, Frank b1882, Ernest George b1884, Mabel n1887, Elsie b1892, Gladys b1894, Reginald b1895 and Doris b1899. In the 1911 census the family lived at 19 Lois Avenue Albert Road New Lenton Nottingham and were shown as George Herbert Upton 53 yrs an iron moulder, he is living with his wife Sarah 55 yrs and their children, James Morley 31 yrs no occupation listed, Elsie 19 yrs a fancy neck maker, Gladys 17 yrs a fancy neck maker, Reginald 15 yrs a lace designer and Doris 12 yrs a scholar .

Military History

Private Reginald Upton originally attested on 12th October 1914 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 19 yrs and 29 days a lithographer and his next of kin was his father George Henry of 60 Cottesmore Road, Lenton, he was allocated the service number 17848 and posted to the 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was discharged from the Army on 11th November 1914. He later re joined the Army and was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 21st March 1918, having no known grave his name is commemrated on the Arras Memorial Bay 7
