Family History

Thomas George was born in 1891 in St Ann's, Nottingham and was the husband of Mary Ellen Hackett (born 10th January 1891 whom he married in 1913 in Nottingham they lived at 4 Pelham Terrace, Kyte Street, Lenton they had a son Thomas James born 22nd September 1914 In the 1911 census he is shown as being 21 yrs of age, single and a Private in the 2nd Border Regiment at Martinique Barracks, Alton, Hampshire. On 17th April 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week. His widow remarried on 16th December 1917 to William Morris a serving soldier with the Canadian forces

Military History

Thomas Henshaw enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 2nd Border Regiment. He landed in France on 5th October 1914 and was killed in action less than a year later on 25th September 1915. Thomas has no known grave and is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Dud Corner (Panel 68 & 69).

Armistice Day 2018: poppy cross placed on the Midland Railway Company Employees memorial, Nottingham, in memory of Private Henhaw: 'In remembrance Pte Thomas G Henshaw 8547 2nd Bn Border Regiment killed on 25.9.15 aged 24 1st day of Battle Loos France.'
