George Albert Mountcastle was born in 1897 at Woodhouse, Yorkshire he was the son of George a farm labourer and Fanny Mountcastle née Maxted of Spridlington, Lincolnshire. His father George was born in 1870 at Ingham, Lincolnshire and his mother Fanny Maxted was born in 1871 at Margate, Kent, they were married in 1896 at Lambeth, London and went on to have the following children, George Albert b1897 Woodhouse, Reginald Gerald b1900 Woodhouse, Ernest Maxted b1902 Woodhouse, Frank b1904 Spridlington and Lionel Mountcastle b1910 Sprindlington, Lincolnshire In 1901 they lived on Revill Lane Woodhouse Handsworth Yorkshire. In 1911 they lived at Fillingham Lincoln and were shown as George 41 yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Fanny 40 yrs and their children, George Albert 13 yrs a farm labourer, Reginald Gerald 11 yrs a scholar, Ernest Maxted 9 yrs a scholar, Frank 7 yrs a scholar and Lionel 1 year of age.
Private George Albert Mountcastle enlisted at Lincoln whilst residing at Spridlington, Lincolnshire, he served with the 1/4th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He landed in France on 25th June 1915 and was killed in action on 30th June 1915. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
His name is commemorated on a plaque at St Marys Church Skidlington, Lincolnshire.
