Family History

Lawrence Allport was born in 1889 at Hyson Green, Nottingham, he was the son of Frank Stephen Allport a mechanic and Sarah Ann Allport née White of 8 Marlborough Street, Lenton, Nottingham. Frank Stephen was born in 1864 at Nottingham, Sarah Ann White was born in 1864 at Navenby, Lincolnshire, they were married in 1883 at Nottingham, they went on to have 14 children, sadly 5 were to die in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census his parents and siblings were living at 8 Marlborough Street, Lenton, Frank Stephen 46 yrs is a mechanic, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 47 yrs and 6 of their children. In the same 1911 census we find that Lawrence has joined the Army, we find him 21 yrs of age a lance corporal, with the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry at barracks in Hong Kong.

Military History

Sergeant Lawrence Allport enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, he landed in France on 15th January 1915 and was killed in action on 20th April 1915 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
