Harold Welbourn was born in 1896 in Nottingham and was the son of James Edwin a labourer and Alice Welbourn née Shipman of 718 Woodborough Road Mapperley Nottingham. His father James Edwin was born in 1859 in Plunger Leicestershire and his mother Alice Shipman was born in 1861 in Kneeton, Nottinghamshire, they were married in 1881 in Nottingham and went on to have the following children, Annie b1882, Lewis b1886, Frank b1889, Ernest b1894, Harold b1896, Hilda b1899. His father James Edwin Welbourn died in 1898 in Nottingham he was 37 yrs of age. His mother Alice remarried in 1907 in Nottingham to Henry Knighton , they had one child together Harry Knighton born 1908. In the 1911 census the family are living at 143 Bulwell Lane Basford and are shown as Henry Knighton 47 yrs a colliery banksman born in Derbyshire, he is living with his wife Alice Knighton 50 yrs and their children Frank Welbourn (stepson) 22 yrs a carter, Mark Knighton son 17 yrs a grocers packer, Ernest Welbourn (stepson) 17 yrs a telephone labourer, Harold Welbourn (stepson) 15 yrs a pottery pot maker, Hilda Welbourn (stepdaughter) 12 yrs a scholar, Horace Knighton 11 yrs son scholar, Alice Welbourn (stepdaughter) 8 yrs a scholar and Harry Knighton 3 yrs. he lived at 31 Scotland Road, Basford,
