He was the son of George and Rebecca Throne and the brother of Sarah Lizzie, Frederick, Alice Beatrice, Ada Ellen, Hilda Rebecca, Edith Annie, Doris Evelyn and Harry Throne. In 1911 they lived at 5 Warner Street Radford and later at 9 Bateman Street Hyson Green (both Nottingham). He was the husband of Mabel (née Harris) Throne (born 1894 ) and the father of Winifred May Throne born 1914. Following his death his widow Mabel was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week which commenced on 28th August 1916. Mabel re married Thomas Southall in 0n 22nd September 1919 and they lived at 292 Ilkeston Road Old Radford Nottingham.
Private George Throne, served with the 6th Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, died of wounds on 10th February 1916 at No. 17 Casualty Clearing Station. He is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery.
Death notices published 26th February 1916 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “THRONE. – On the 10th inst., [February 1916] from wounds received in action, Pte. George Throne, 6th Batt. K.O.Y.L.I., the dearly loved husband of May Throne, and second son of the late George and Mrs. Throne, of 70, Birkin-avenue, aged 22 years. Nobly he did his duty. – From his broken-hearted wife and mother, sisters, & brothers. “THRONE. – On the 10th inst., from wounds received in France, Pte. George Throne, 6th Batt. K.O.Y.L.I., the beloved brother of Alice and Harold Phillips. Ever in our thoughts. – From sorrowing sister and brother.” In memoriam notices published 10th February 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “THRONE. – In loving memory of George Throne, who died of wounds February 10th, 1916. They miss him most who loved him best. – Wife, Dorothy and Freddie (children). “THRONE. – In loving remembrance of Pte. G. Throne, K.O.Y.L.I., died of wounds February 10th, 1916.
