Family History

Henry Noel Brett was born in 1892 at Wildmore, Lincolnshire and was the son of William Paul Brett a farmer and Emily Brett, née Roe of Dunstal Lodge, Grassthorpe Road, Sutton-on-Trent, Newark. His father William Paul was born in 1855at Kirkstead, Lincolnshire and his mother Emily Roe was born in 1861 at Halstead, Leicestershire, they were married in 1889 at Melton Mowbray and went on to have the following children all born in Wildmore, Lincolnshire, Henry Noel b1892, Grace Edna b1894 and Emily Doris b1902. In the 1911 census the family are living at Dunstal Lodge, Grassthorpe Road, Sutton on Trent and are shown as William P Brett 56 yrs a farmer, he is living with his wife Emily 50 yrs and their children, Henry Noel 19 yrs a farmers son working on his farm and Emily Doris 9 yrs. Henry Noel's probate was proven at Nottingham on 28th January 1919 and shows him as Henry Noel Brett of Sutton in Ashfield, a Private in HM Army, died 15th April 1918 in France or Belgium, his effects of £690. 0 shillings and 5 pence were left to William Paul Brett, farmer.

Military History

Private Henry Noel Brett , enlisted at Melton Mowbray whilst residing at Sutton on Trent, he served with the 2/5th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment and was killed in action on 15th April 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Hainaut, Belgium.
