Family History

Henry Simpson Jefford was born in 1874 at Radford, Henry married Fanny Caroline Reed (born 1st January 1871) on 15th August 1899 at All Saints Church, Nottingham. In 1901 they lived at 46 Coppice Road and in 1911 at 42 Laurel Avenue (both Nottingham). Fanny later lived at 72 Querneby Road Mapperley Nottingham. In 1911 they are living at 42 Laurie Avenue, Nottingham, Henry is 36 yrs and a clerk at the Co Operative he is living with his wife Fanny 38 yrs, On the 1911 census Henry states that he has been married for 10 yrs, have had 1 child which had died. Commencing 12th February 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week.

Military History

Lance Corporal Henry Simpson Jefford enlisted at Nottingham on 21st August 1915, giving his age as 38 yrs and 4 months he was a clerk and was living with his wife at 72 Quernaby Road, Mapperley. Posted to the 13th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps he landed in France on 23rd December 1915. Promoted to Lance Corporal on 24th July 1916 he was killed in action on 1st August 1916 and is buried at Caterpillar Valley cemetery Grave Reference: X. F. 17.
