Arthur Horace Shooter was born in 1899 in Nottingham and was the son of Arthur a saw machine hand and Mary Ann Shooter née Truswell of 7 Martin Street St Anns, Nottingham His father Arthur was born in 1877 in Suttton in Ashfield and his mother Mary Ann Truswell was born in 1873 in Nottingham, they were married in Nottingham in 1898 and had a daughter Leah Edith born 1900 in Nottingham, His mother Mary Ann died in 1904 in Nottingham she was 32 yrs of age, his father Arthur died in 1911 he was 32 yrs of age. Following his parents death both he and his sister Leah went to live with their aunt and uncle George and Clara Curwood. In the 1911 census we find them living at 8 Shirlands Row, High Street, Basford and are shown as George Curwood 42 yrs a labourer , he is living with his wife Clara 40 yrs and their nephew Arthur 12 yrs and niece Leah 11 yrs. At the time of Arthurs death his sole legatee is his sister Leah who is still living at 8 Shirland Row, High Street, Basford.
Pte. Arthur Horace Shooter, enlisted at Nottingham on 5th June 1916 , he gave his age as 18 yrs and 7 days old, his address as 8 Shirlands Row, High Street, Basford, he gave his next of kin as his uncle George Curwood of the same address, his occupation was that of hosiery hand. The following day 6th he was posted to the reserves. He was mobilised for war on 30th January 1917 and joined the Army at Bradford for initial training. He embarked from Felixstowe on 11th March 1918 to join the British Expeditionary Force and after further training at Etaples joined his battalion in the Field on 15th August 1918. At No. 11 Stationary Hospital on 6th September 1918, he died of wounds received in action and is buried in St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen.
In memoriam published 6th September 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “SHOOTER. – In ever-loving memory of my dear brother, Sig. A. Shooter, died of wounds September 6th, 1918.
