Family History

Frederick Ward was born in 1894 at Tuxford and was the son of George Henry an agricultural worker and Mary Ann Ward née Fell of Main Street, North Muskham Nottinghamshire. His father George Henry was born in 1865 at Laxton, his mother Mary Ann Fell was born in 1866 at Elksley they were married in 1889 their marriage was recorded in the East Retford Registration district, they had the following children, Edith b1891 Winthorpe, Frederick b1894 Tuxford, Lily b1897 Tuxford, Hilda b1898 Fardon, Leonard b1902 Farndon, Bertie b1904 Farndon and Roy b1906 Farndon, George William b1908 Farndon and Reginald Ward b1910 Farndon. In the 1911 census his parents and siblings are living at North Muskham and are shown as George Henry 46 yrs working at home, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 45 yrs and their children, Edith 20 yrs no occupation listed, Leonard 9 yrs a scholar, Bertie 7 yrs a scholar, Roy 5 yrs, George William 3 yrs and Reginald 6 months of age. In the 1911 census we find that Frederick has left the family home and is living at the Robin Hood, Elksley, he is 17 yrs of age single and a servant a horseman on a farm, he is living with the widowed James Rose 62 yrs a publican and farmer.

Military History

Sergeant Frederick Ward enlisted at Newark and served with the 11th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 6th October 1918 and is buried at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gouy, Aisne, France.
