Family History

Thomas George Harris was born in 1889 in Basford and was the son of John a bleacher and Amy Benand Harris née Poyser, of 10 Stirland's Yard, High Street, Old Basford, Nottingham. His father John was born in 1859 at Basford and his mother Amy Benand Poyser was born in 1867 in Derby, they were married in 1888 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration Distirct. In the 1911 census Thomas George is living in barracks at the Depot of the King's Own Royal Lancashire Regiment, he is a Corporal , 23 yrs of age and single. Thomas George married his wife Lucy Ellen Frost (born 25th April 1889) in 1910 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham Registration District, they had a daughter Florence Vera born 6th September 1914, Commencing 10th January 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 16 shillings a week.

Military History

Sergeant Thomas George Harris, enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 2nd Battalion King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment). He landed in France on 15th January 1915, almost certainly captured at Frezenberg on 8th May 1915,he died of wounds in German hands on 22nd May 1915 he is buried in Niederzwehren Cemetery, Kassel,
