He was the son of George and Sarah Hall of 34 Moseley Street, Basford. He married his wife Rose Allen in 1902 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham registration district, they lived at 31 Zulu Road, Basford they had the following children, George Henry born 2nd April 1903 and Frederick born 6th May 1909. In the 1911 census Henry and his wife and children are living at 31 Zulu Road, Basford, Nottingham, they are living with his widowed mother in law Emma Allen and are shown as Emma Allen 71 yrs a widow, she is living with her son Henry Allen 42 yrs a chimney sweep and her son in law Henry Hall 25 yrs a twist hand and his wife Rose 26 yrs a housekeeper and their children, George Henry 8 yrs and Frederick 1 year of age. Following Henry's death his widow was awarded a pension of 27 shillings and 2 pence a week which commenced on 30th August 1918.
Rifleman Henry Hall enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 18th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps. He was killed in action on 10th October 1916 and has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial (Pier and Face 13 A and 13 B.)
Nottingham Post notice (abridged), 25 October 1916: 'Hall. Killed in action October 3rd 1916, Rifleman H Hall, son of George and Sarah Hall of 34 Moseley Street, Basford. Mother, father, sisters, brother. Late of 31 Zulu Road, Basford, age 33. Wife and boys.' In memoriam published 3rd October 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “HALL. – In loving memory of Rifleman Henry Hall, killed in action October 3rd, 1916. Ever in our thoughts. – Wife, sons. “HALL. – In loving memory of my dear son, Rfn. Harry Hall, killed in action October 3rd, 1916. Day of remembrance sad to recall. – Mother, dad, Rosie, Bob. “HALL. – In loving memory of our dear brother, Harry Hall, killed in action October 3rd, 1916. – Minnie and George. “HALL. – In loving memory of Rifleman Harry (Ash) Hall, killed in action October 3rd, 1916. [1] The Commonwealth War Graves Commission give his date of death as 10th October 1916. The register of the disposal of his personal effects and the pension record state death took place between 3rd and 10th October 1916.
