When Harry Lightoller was born his parents were living at 13, Court 16 Bridge Street. James and Helen Lightoller were to move to Ripley where James worked as a locomotive engine fitter’s labourer.
Harry first served with the Sherwood Forester but was moved. Probably after returning from injury, to the 23rd Middlesex (originally the 2nd Footballers Battalion) and became a Lance Sergeant. He took part in the, to then, most successful attack when the Germans were driven off Messines Ridge. Harry was killed in the attack and reported dead on the 3 July 1917.
