Joseph Bennett had served with the second line battalion of the 7th Sherwood Foresters which had been rushed to Ireland to deal with the Easter Rebellion in 1916. He became ill during his service and on the return of the battalion in 1917 was sent home and was then admitted to Kilton Hospital, then called the Workhouse In firmary, where he died on 14 October 1917 from Phthisis, a wasting disease Associated with TB. His home was at 33 Gladstone Street and he is buried at Manton Cemetery in a grave maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commision. Research by Robert Illett
