Ernest was born at Wildsworth, Gainsborough in 1881 the son of Joseph a chemical works labourer and Elizabeth Baines (nee Staples) He had seven siblings;- Ann born 1877,Florence born 1878,Beatrice born 1883,Bernard born 1889,Laura born 1890,John born 1892 and Clarice born 1897. He was married to Jessie May Dennis who was born in 1882 at Tealby, Lincolnshire,they were married in 1901 at Haxey,Lincolnshire. They had a daughter Beatrice may born in 1902. By the 1911 census he and his wife and daughter are living at Haxey he is shown as being 29 years of age and a farm labourer.

Military History

He enlisted at Epworth,and served with the Army Service Corps with the service number DM2/139735 and later transferred to the 1st Battalion Royal Fusiliers and died of wounds on 27th March 1918 He is buried at Namps-au-val British Cemetery
