Family History

Leslie Bernard Sadler was born in 1892 the son of James a farmer and inn keeper and Mary Jane Sadler, née Oakley of Normanton Inn, Clumber Park, Worksop, Nottinghamshire. James was born in 1866 at Ironville, Derbyshire, Mary Jane Oakley was born in 1867 at Nuneaton, Warwickshire. They were married in 1888, their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham registration district, and had 4 children. In 1911 the family was living at The Old Elm Tree, Hoveringham James 45 yrs a farmer and inn keeper, his wife Mary Jane 44 yrs and their 4 children including Leslie Bernard 19 yrs a farmer.

Military History

Lance Corporal Leslie Bernard Sadler enlisted at Nottingham on 16th November 1911, residence Hoveringham, and served with the South Nottinghamshire Hussars.He drowned (accidentally) on 7th September 1914 at South Stoke, Oxford. He was buried in Hoveringham Cemetery, Hoveringham, Nottinghamshire (South Side. 242).
