Family History

Walter Hall was born in 1886 at Hoveringham and was the youngest son of Wiliam a general farm labourer and Sarah Ann Hall née Isaac's of New Buildings, Hoveringham. His father was born in 1833 at Hoveringham and his mother Sarah Ann Isaac was born in 1840 also in Hoveringham, they were married in 1865 in Nottinghamshire and went on to have 8 children, sadly 1 died in infancy their children were William b1867, Martha b1868, Mary b1871, John b1873, Charles b1876, Robert b1881, Emma b1883 and Walter b1886, all were born in Hoveringham except Mary who was born at Gonalston. In the 1911 census his parents are still living at Hoveringham and are shown as William 77 yrs and Sarah 69 yrs.

Military History

Private Walter Hall enilisted in Nottinghamshire, he served with the 2nd battalion Grenadier Guards, he was killed in action on 15th September 1916 , having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thievpal memorial, Somme, France.
