Family History

Arthur was born in 1879 at Walkeringham, he was the son of Jonas a labourer (1850-1921) and Hannah Lockwood née Gillatt (1849 - after 1911) they were married in 1873 at Glanford Brigg, Lincolnshire, they had 10 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood, they lived at Walkeringham. Arthur married Eliza Foster (born 9th January 1885) in 1905 their marriage was recorded in the Rotherham registration district, they lived at 14 Eldon Road, Rotherham and had the following children, Arthur born 22nd October 1905, Eric born 27th June 1907 and John Henry born 5th November 1915. In the 1911 census the family are living at 14 Eldon Road, Rotherham, Arthur is 32 yrs and a brewers cellerman, he is living with his wife Eliza 26 yrs and their children, Arthur 5 yrs and Eric 4 yrs of age. Commencing 4th November 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 29 shillings and 7 pence a week.

Military History

Private Arthur Lockwood enlisted at Rotherham, he served with the 1st battalion West Yorkshire Regiment. He died of wounds on 24th April 1918 he is buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France.
