Family History

Albert was born at Grimsby in 1885 the son of John a coal miner and Sarah Brannick (nee Brocklesby) of Grimsby he had 5 siblings.In the 1911 census we find him as a boarder living with the Howden family at Glenayr Manor Road, Nettleham Road, Lincoln.he is 26 years of age and single and his occupation is that of labourer/fitter at Ruston Proctor and Co Engineers. Following his fathers death his mother later remarried and became Sarah Atkinson and lived at 5, Torr St., Gainsborough

Military History

He enlisted at Gainsborough and served with D Company 6th battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment he originally went to the Balkans on 18th July 1915 and then fought in the Gallipoli campaign where he was killed in action on 9th August 1915 aged 30 years. His name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Galipoli, Turkey

His younger brother David also served and was killed in 'The Great War ' and was killed on the first day of the battle of the Somme aged 16 years CWGC - Son of Sarah Atkinson (formerly Brannick), of 5, Torr St., Gainsborough, and the late John Brannick.
