Family History

Tom was born in Treswell in 1890 and was the son of Thomas a labourer and Mary Elizabeth Day, of Treswell, , Thomas and Mary had four children , Walter , Tom, George and Mary Elizabeth in the 1891 census the family are living at Town Street Tresewell and are still living in the village in 1901. On 7th August 1917 at Cross Stone Church in Todmorden he marries his wife Florence Martin , in the church register he is shown as being 29 years of age and a bachelor and living at 66 Tipton Street, Brightside ,Sheffield, his father is Thomas Day a labourer , his wife Florence Martin is 23 years of age and a spinster , no occupation mentioned, living at 10 Cornfield Terrace, Todmorden, her father Samuel is deceased and was a labourer. His widow Florence following his death lived at 14, Dover St., Todmorden.

Military History

Tom enlisted in Sheffield and served with the 2/4th battalion, King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He was killed in action on 2nd September 1918 and is buried in Vaulx Hill Cemetery, Vaulx Vraucourt, Pas de Calais, France, his grave reference is III H 24
