Family History

Walter Ellis Hanson was born at Serlby, Nottinghamshire, in 1876. His parents were Ellis and Mary Hanson. Shortly after the birth of Walter, the family moved to Harworth where the father took employment as a farm bailiff. 10 years later, whilst still in Harworth, Walter was recorded as a game keeper boy. By 1901, he had move out of the area, and was living in Aston with Aughton, Yorkshire, with his brother and family, working underground as a pit labourer. 10 years later, age 35, Walter had moved further afield and was now living as a single boarder, working as a teamer for a brewery, in Lindley Moor, Huddersfield.

Military History

Whilst living in Huddersfield Walter went to Halifax to join the 2nd/9th (Glasgow Highlanders.) Battalion of his regiment. The circumstances of his death on home territory are unknown but he was buried at Edinburgh Cemetery, Comely Bank.
