George Arthur Ingram was born in 1879 at Boston he was the son of Malachi a dock labourer and Mary Ann Ingram née Warsap. Malachi was born in 1841 at Fishtoft, Mary Ann Warsap was born in 1844 at Boston, they were married in 1864 at Boston and went on to have 8 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. George Arthur married Nellie Martin (born 17th December 1888 Leadenham) in 1908 their marriage was recorded in the Sleaford Registration district, they lived at Rampton village and had the following children, Alice May born 29th April 1909, Mary Ellen born 11th May 1910, George Arthur born 28th July 1911 and Annie born 15th February 1913 In the 1911 census his parents are living at 4a Valentine Terrace, Skirbeck, Lincs. Malachi 69 yrs is a labourer he is living with his wife Mary Ann 67 yrs In the 1911 Census George Arthur 32 yrs a postman is residing with his family at Rampton with his wife Nellie 22 yrs his two daughters Alice born in 1909 and Mary Ellen 11 months born 1910 they have been married for 2 years. He is the rural postman ,civil service worker. Commencing 2nd April 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 28 shilings and 9 pence a week.

Military History

Private George Arthur Ingram enlisted at Retford whilst residing at Skirbeck, he served with the 1st battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. Landing in France on 7th September 1914 he died of wounds on 27th September 1916 at the General Hospital at Camiers, France and is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery

Pte George Arthur Ingram The Retford Times 6/10/1916 Much sympathy is felt for Mrs Ingram who has received information that her husband, Pte George Arthur Ingram has died on September 27th in the General Hospital, Camiers, France. He went out to France on September 7th 1914, leaving his postal duties to join the army in the 1st Lincolns. He was seven years at Rampton and prior to this he was three years at Metheringham, near Lincoln. He was well known as an ardent football player in the district. He leaves a widow and four children.
