Family History

John was born in 1880 at North Wheatley and was the son of George a farmer and Elizabeth Bingley of North Wheatley. We first come across John in the 1881 census , he is 1 year of age and his father George is working a farm of 340 acres, employing 6 men and 2 boys in North Wheatley he is at the farm with his wife Elizabeth and his brother George junior born 1873 and sister Elizabeth born 1879 they are living at Wheatley Grange, Silver Street, North Wheatley. By the 1891 census the family are still at the same address but have anther son Tom born in 1886 . By the 1911 census the family are living at 175 Grimsthorpe Road, Sheffield , John (senior) is now 32 years of age and is working as a shop assistant. he is living with his wife Rose to whom he has been married 9 years and his son John 6 years of age.

Military History

John enlisted at Sheffiield giving his place of birth as North Wheatley , he served with the 9th battalion , King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He was killed in action on 25th April 1918 and is buried at La Clytte Military Cemetery IV .D.23
